Have u ever wondered why most clothes from some factories abroad are usually put up on clearance sales, given to charity etc? Some of these clothes or finished products don’t meet the required standards of which good finishing is one. Sometime, u could find a completely brand new top, label intact, extra buttons intact, seal intact, but a button could be broken, the edges of the clothes may not be properly run or just a minor detail which a home tailor could simply overlook because the finished product looks beautiful.
When they refer to a building as an
UNCOMPLETED BUILDING, even if landlord and tenants are living in it and
everything in the house looks good, nice bathtubs, toilets, water running etc.
As long as the house isn’t painted, it is usually termed UNCOMPLETED BUILDING.
Let’s come back home to what concerns our
jobs. ? CAKES!!!
We spend hours decorating cakes and end up
not covering the board of fondant or buttercream cakes, it is called INCOMPLETE
You don’t cover the edges of your board
with common ribbon of 200 naira of which u will keep using for other jobs, your
cake is what? INCOMPLETE
You finish baking your cakes, cover it with
fondant and u did not ensure to eliminate traces of icing sugar or corn flour
used for dusting (you may not be able to eliminate all because you may not see
all while working except someone calls your attention to it) ...your cake is
INCOMPLETE
What makes you think that the other baker
is better than you?
Let me explain...
She pays attention to little details. If your
madam did not teach you how to cover board in fondant or how to cover the edges
of your cake board with a ribbon then teach yourself. Do what is right so as to
take your cake to the next level. Don’t say “how much did they pay me self”? “I
can’t kill myself”, I don tire! Please, don’t be tired until you accomplish your
mission. As long as you accept 3k for that 12 inch fondant cake, please make
sure you deliver your job neatly, because you don’t know who will come around
when your cake is displayed, it could make or mar your reputation as a baker.
Finally, making neat cakes takes a lot of
patience and practice. Cake business isn’t for the lazy, prepare for jobs by
getting all materials ready for your cake, do not compromise or take
shortcuts, if you are paid for a 10 inch
cake, please deliver a 10 inch cake, most clients now know the pan
measurements. Do what is right and in no time, you will see that your hustle
will pay off.
